While the SL Government Agent of Batticaloa, Ms PSM Charles is on vacation, Mr Neel De Alwis, the SL Government Agent of Ampaa’rai, has been appointed as Additional Government Agent to look after the affairs of the Batticaloa district, news sources in Batticaloa said. The SLGA of Ampaa’rai has been behind the recent encroachments by Sinhalese in the villages of Paddippazhai bordering Ampaa’rai, the sources further said adding that the Buddhist prelate of Batticaloa had been waging a campaign for the last two years demanding appointment of Sinhala officials at the key posts in the administration of the Batticaloa district.

In the meantime, Mr V. Vasudevan, the Assistant District Secretary of Batticaloa, who is a Tamil, has been transferred to Aaraip-pattai (stylised into Aaraiyampathi) Divisional Secretariat.

The Divisional Secretary of Aaraip-pattai Ms Vasuki has been appointed as Deputy Postmaster General (Eastern Province).

Vasuki’s transfer to postal services comes as she had voiced against demographic changes in her division, informed civil sources say.

Mr Neel De Alwis has been spearheading Sinhalicisation of Kevu’lyaa-madu, Suvaami-malai and Magncha’l-aa’ru villages bordering Ampaa’rai district.
