British Tamils should start backing Scottish Nationalist Party

The British elections should teach the lesson and open the eyes of Eezham Tamils in the UK, who shamefully count on the Labour and Conservative parties. If the Eezham Tamils in the UK wish to make a fundamental theoretical point for their own benefit and for the cause of the nations without State all over the world, it is time that they should start actively voicing and working for the Scottish Nationalist Party, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics in Jaffna. The theoretical foundations laid by the English outlook on the island of Ceylon 200 years ago are the ones that are now followed by Washington and New Delhi and still haunt the nation of Eezham Tamils in the island. They have to be challenged in their very birthplace, the activists further said.

The British imperialism kept the island of Ceylon as a colonially united entity, but separate from its empire in India, not without its geopolitical reasons.

The process started in 1802, when London made the island a ‘crown colony’ and continued when it had two different ministries for India and Ceylon.

Even when the Sinhalese demanded federalism in the 1930s, London rejected it, not without its selfish reasons. The nation of Eezham Tamils neither had the chance of being part of the larger federal socio-political formations in the neighbourhood, nor found acceptance for their independence, but were kept under the unitary genocidal State in Colombo.

The policies have never changed in the last 200 years.

The way the British Prime Minister responds to the demands coming from Scotland is the way the UK ‘advises’ to genocidal Sri Lanka.

Theoretically challenging the UK on this issue is theoretically challenging the outlook of powers on the question of Eezham Tamils. British Tamils have a responsibility in mobilising support among themselves and among other nations without State in the UK, towards the cause of Scottish Nationalism.

There was a time when enlightened British people like Annie Besant had come to South Asia and worked for the cause of nationalism and liberation from imperialism. It is now our turn to voice for the cause of the nations inside the UK and in that process making paradigms for the entire humanity.

If the political bigwigs of Eezham Tamils in the UK are not prepared for it, the younger generation should come forward, the activists for alternative politics said.
