UN Human Rights Chief ridicules stateless nation of Eezham Tamils

[TamilNet, Thursday, 10 March 2016, 15:21 GMT]
The ethnic conflict in the island of Ceylon intensified following the genocidal invention of ‘Sri Lanka’ in 1972. Eezham Tamils were waging powerful non-violent campaign opposing the imposed identity of ‘Sri Lanka’ for over two decades by 1972 when the Jordanian Prince Zeid bin Ra’ad was an 8-year-old boy. The nation of Eezham Tamils was forced to launch the struggle for independent Tamil Eelam when all avenues of peaceful resolution to their national question were exhausted. They have never sought to sing ‘Sri Lankan’ anthem in Tamil, Sinhala or English. But, for 52-year-old UN Human Rights Chief, who should be aware that the root crime in the island is the crime of genocide, which his office didn't want to recognise, SL State forcing or manipulating Tamils to sing ‘Sri Lankan national anthem’ in Tamil was a ‘powerful symbolic gesture of reconciliation’.

The Tamil prisoners of war and political prisoners who are waging a hunger strike for 17 days have become ‘security detainees’ in the eyes of UN ‘Human Rights’ chief.

“I felt it as an insult,” commented a Tamil activist who was present at Geneva on Thursday while Mr Zeid was making his Statement at the 31st session of Human Rights Council in Geneva. “He became a victim for what he himself described as human rights window-dressing,” the Tamil activist, who has come from the island to address the UNHRC, said.

The Bishop of Mannaar Rt Rev Rayappu Joseph attending the LLRC in Mannaar in 2011 made a historic contribution in internationally putting on record, with evidence, the figure of 146,679 people who went unaccounted for in the genocidal onslaught on Vanni alone in 2009.

Maithiripala Sirisena, the incumbent president of genocidal ‘Sri Lanka’ and Ranil Wickramasinghe, the prime minister, have both declined to recognise the Tamil POWs at least as political prisoners. The SL State has only admitted around 200 Tamil prisoners as still being detained in the ‘Sri Lankan’ jails. In the meantime, the leaders of the Sinhala State have openly rejected to recognise even these as political prisoners.

Hundreds of mothers have been waging protests in th North and East, carrying the photos of their missing kith and kin.

The SL State has been accelerating its genocidal military grip and it continues the structural genocide on the nation of Eezham Tamils. The military surveillance is at its peak again.

Despite sitting on detailed complaints, eyewitness reports and face-to-face messages of Eezham Tamils who met him during his recent visit to the island, Mr Zeid was praising the meaningless smoke screen publicity stunts of the SL State in his address.

Mr Zeid was actually exposing how OHCHR and the UN system in general is continuing to commit injustices against the stateless nation of Eezham Tamils.

The following is what Mr Zeid had to tell the Assembly of UN Human Rights Council on Thursday:
OHCHR Report
“There are important lessons in this respect for Sri Lanka, which is on its own journey toward accountability, reconciliation and durable peace. Important steps have been taken to reform the Constitution, revive independent institutions, and restore an environment for free expression and debate. Powerful symbolic gestures of reconciliation have been made, for instance singing the national anthem in Tamil – although other steps, such as the release of land held by the military, reviewing the cases of security detainees, and resolving the issue of disappearances, need to move forward faster.

“The next months will be important, as the Government embarks on national consultations for the design of a comprehensive transitional justice process to implement fully this Council's resolution. It will be very important that this takes place in an environment free of surveillance and intimidation, so the voices of victims can be heard. Reports of violations must be promptly investigated and addressed. I look forward to reporting to you further on progress at the June session.”
