‘Vidura’ becomes gravity centre of structural genocide on Champoor Tamils

‘Vidura’ becomes gravity centre of structural genocide on Champoor Tamils

The occupying navy of genocidal Sri Lanka has seized around 3,200 acres of lands in the territory belonging to the nation of Eezham Tamils in Champoor, Moothoor East, Trincomalee, in an attempt to upgrade the SL Navy with a marine force, which is being groomed by the U.S. Pacific Command under the notion of ‘military-to-military’ engagement. Eezham Tamils are very well aware that the USA is conducting its ‘access strategy’ through the genocidal State of Sri Lanka after altering the diplomatic, military and remedial equilibrium of the nation of Eezham Tamils, commented a Tamil activist from Champoor. “The harassment meted out to resettled Tamils in Champoor stems from the subservient military needs of the agent State in Colombo,” the activist, who has been subjected to repeated military PsyOps harassment by the occupying Sinhala military, told TamilNet on Wednesday.

Following the regime change in Colombo, 818 acres were released back to uprooted Tamils in Champoor.

Within that 818 acres, SL Navy was having its ‘Vidura’ base in 178 acres. Before releasing that part, a lot more lands were seized elsewhere in Champoor, near Villuk-ku'lam and Ka'ndiyadip-pattai (also known as Venkaayach-cheanai).

The total extent of Vidura cantonment stands today at 3,200 acres of private and public lands of Eezham Tamils, the activist said.

Agricultural lands of 85 families, to the extent of 510 acres, have been seized in the bargain of releasing the 178 acres of lands.

Ilangkai Thamizh Arasuk Kadchi (ITAK) was very well aware of the cunning approach, but didn't voice against the militarization.

The ITAK only managed to secure access to 70 acres of agricultural lands. But, that access has also been blocked now as the SL Navy has put up a fence along Villuk-ku'lam.

Villuk-ku'lam is the largest irrigation tank. There are also three minor tanks, named Eama-vadduvaan, Chaayak-karai-vadduvaan and Chu'ndik-ku'lam, used by the Tamils in the past for agriculture. The entire area, including the tanks, is now grabbed by the SL Navy for its ‘SLNS Vidura’ cantonment.

Apart from the agricultural lands, residential lands belonging to 16 families have also been taken over by the SL Navy. 35 acres of these residential lands are located to the south of Vidura cantonment. Even though there are no fences there, the SL Navy is blocking people to enter the area.

Around 1,600 acres of lands have been fenced off as High Security Zone of the Vidura cantonment. But, beyond that area an equal amount of lands have been blocked from public access around the Vidura base.

The SL Navy has also seized 5 acres of coconut grove situated along Villuk-ku'lam, the owners among the uprooted Champoor Tamils complain. An administrative building has been constructed by the SL Navy, the uprooted people further complain.

Australia's policies lead to deaths of Eezham Tamil refugees

Australia's policies lead to deaths of

 Eezham Tamil refugees

32-year-old Eezham Tamil asylum seeker, Rajeev Rajendran, lost his life after he had slit his own throat on 29th September to protest the inhuman conditions prevailing at the Manus Island, at the off-shore detention centre operated by a Spanish-owned private firm on behalf of the Australian government in Papua New Guinea. In the meantime, 42-year-old Eezham Tamil female, Santhiya, who has been languishing in an Indonesian refugee camp located in Jakarta lost her life on 1st of October due kidney failure, and the subsequent negligence of medical attention by the local authorities. The Australian government is known for its continued anti-people refugee policies, denying peoples fleeing from persecution and genocide.

Australia was also recently instrumental in watering down a UN Human Rights Council resolution against the crimes being committed against Rohingya people by the State of Myanmar. Australia was insisting on softening the text of the resolution at a closed-door meeting among the Council member states while some of the member states wanted a tougher resolution against Myanmar.

Recent news reports also indicate that the Australian government was offering money to Rohyngya boat refugees in an attempt to send them back to their homeland.

Australia, taking part in the US bandwagoning in the region, is long known for appeasing the Colombo-centric unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka as in the recent case of its approach towards Myanmar.

It has also been financing the military and bureaucratic institutions of the SL State to strengthen its ‘capabilities’ of deporting, apprehending and preventing Eezham Tamil refugees from fleeing the island towards Australia.

Despite being abandoned by the UN system, the late Eezham Tamil woman Santhiya was recognized as a refugee by the UNHCR.

Her husband and brother were forcefully made to disappear by the occupying Sinhala military during the 2009 onslaught.

Santhiya, then fled to India, and from there to Indonesia to seek asylum in Australia. She has been languishing with her now orphaned 12-year-old for the past eight years in the Indonesian detention camp. The detention camp was earlier an overseas detention centre funded by the Australian government, which later moved its operations to Manus Island.

Santhiya's fate was left with the purview of the local authorities. The well-being and future of the orphaned son remains uncertain.

“These deaths are direct consequences of ‘protecting the border’ and ‘stop the boat’ policies of the Australian state,” Aran Mylvagnam of Tamil Refugee Council (TRC) told TamilNet on Tuesday.

These policies were schemes legislated to prevent refugees from landing on the Australian mainland and claiming asylum and temporary stay by forcefully processing them at overseas detention camps.

In the past years, a number of other refugees from Iranian Kurdistan (Rojhelat), Afghanistan and Pakistan have also lost their lives.

Similarly, Eezham Tamil refugees in Nauru as well as in Australia have taken their life to protest the refugee policy or known as the ‘stop the boat’ policies of the Australian government.

Rajendran’s death has also sparked protests at the Manus Island Detention centre, by fellow refugees from other countries.

Rajendran was initially detained in Christmas Island in 2013, while he was fleeing from his homeland due to threats issued from the occupying Sinhala military in Jaffna. He was then transported to Manus Island and detained there without being allowed to apply for asylum by Australian authorities. Four years elapsed, without any decision on his asylum status, a systematic approach applied by the Australian authorities against Eezham Tamil refugees.

SL Navy groomed by Washington destroys Tamils’ houses as US naval ship docks at Trinco port

SL Navy groomed by Washington destroys Tamils’ houses as US naval ship docks at Trinco port

The occupying Sinhala navy of genocidal Sri Lanka was destroying the houses of uprooted Eezham Tamils in Champoor, Trincomalee, to obtain concrete material to fortify its newly-built administrative headquarters for the training of the ‘Marine Battalion’ of the SL Navy. On Sunday, the resettled Tamils in Champoor had to confront the Sinhala navy sailors to block them from dismantling the walls of a Tsunami settlement with 75 houses, which has already been plundered of the roofs and doors by the occupying SL military. The SL Navy has managed to rob three tractor loads of concrete material before the people mobilised against the move, residents in Champoor told TamilNet on Monday as US Navy Ship Lewis and Clark arrived at Trincomalee port to take part in what the SL Navy was claiming as first of its kind joint training taking place between the SL and US Navies in the island.

As earlier reported, the SL Navy has been putting up a chain of coastal points in recent days, claiming to beef up the security of the 4-story building, which is situated within the premises of ‘SLNS Vidura’ naval base at Champoor.

Sinhala navy sailors were giving different explanations for the fortification, which has been threatening the resettled Tamils, particularly the fishermen along the coast of Moothoor East in Trincomalee.

The fishermen, caught up in anxiety over the appearance of the chain of sentry posts along their coast, were first told that it was only a temporary security measure in the run up to a ‘concluding training session’, which was to take place with the participation of foreign visitors.

But, the build-up continued even after the date mentioned by the military men had passed. Later, the SLN sailors said the event had been postponed to another date, which has also elapsed.

The fortifications now seem to be permanent structures, the people say.

The latest harassment comes amidst increased number of reports of SL military surveillance and harassment on resettled Champoor Tamils in the recent times.

On Sunday, the SL Navy went to the extent of dismantling the walls of some of the roofless houses of the Tsunami housing scheme of 75 houses located near the Agrarian Services Department building at Champoor.

The US Establishment, which influenced the Geneva-based human rights discourse bringing the genocidal State of Sri Lanka into its ‘consensus’ fold, has stepped up joint military exercises with the SL military in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils.

The latest Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training is a “premier naval engagement which addresses shared maritime security priorities, enhances interoperability among participating forces, and develops sustained naval partnership with nations across South and Southeast Asia,” according to a news release from the SL Navy.

The military-to-military training between the US Pacific Fleet and SL Navy is scheduled to take place between 02 and 06 October.

The US Pacific Command was instrumental in upgrading the genocidal SL Navy with a marine unit. The SL Navy didn’t have a marine force even during the times of the war with the LTTE.

The SL Navy has divided the entire island into 7 ‘Naval Areas’.

The Eastern Naval Area (ENA) covers the longest eastern belt of the occupied country of Eezham Tamils, and consists of 13 Commissioned Naval Bases (CNBs).

The ENA is the largest establishment within the SL Navy in the entire island.

Several commanding cantonments have been put up along the Eastern Coast, especially after the end of war and each of these CNBs are coupled to particular projects of structural genocide with the intention of causing demographic changes.

While the provincial administration of previously merged North-East is separated into Northern and Eastern Provinces, the SL Naval Command for East extends to North and South of Trincomalee.

The CNBs are permanently wedging the territorial integrity of the Tamil homeland at its strategic locations.
